The Cow Shed furnishing continues

Another week that seems to have disappeared with little progress made – or perhaps we continue to underestimate just how long jobs actually take us. This is the first weekend in a month that we’ve both been at home so we’ve taken the chance to catch up on a few jobs around the house before getting started on the Cow Shed – our main focus again. We finished painting the final touches – mostly going over the caulking around the skirting boards and touching up a few scratches from the builders.

It seems like it’s taken a while, but we also started moving some of the boxes out of our corridor into the Cow Shed and unpack them. It’s mainly been kitchenware – which we’ve washed and put away into cupboards. One of the biggest bugbears we have when we go on holiday is when the cottages are poorly equipped and we struggle to put together and serve a meal for two – so we use the five-star cottage list from Cottages.com and then supplement it with items guests and friends have recommended we add. Turns out though that amounts to countless boxes and at least 4 dishwasher loads – which takes a lot longer than you expect to unpack and put away!

Saturday saw us head into Taunton to finish our shopping list as much as we could. We must have spent over three hours going between shops – including getting a trolley-full of ‘essentials’ from Sainsburys (cleaning products, consumables and remaining kitchenware). Even then we’re expecting a procession of delivery vans over the next few weeks of things we couldn’t find to finish furnishing the cottage.

The Cow Shed diary is open from 27th July – not that we’re expecting any bookings given the photos are sparce and show very little furniture. It’s a bit of a shame but at least it gives us a bit of wiggle room if we run out of time next weekend. It still feels like there’s a lot to get through – all at the same time as the final planning for the Yarcombe Terrier Races on 1 August which is competing for our time. Always something to keep us busy!!
