A dry weekend!!!

Sunny skies (albeit cold!), and being pent up in the house for a couple of weeks (combination of rain, work and study) meant we couldn’t wait to get out in the garden this weekend. We have a two-column A4 sheet full of jobs, so Friday night was spent prioritising the most important ones – namely clearing the old dead leaves and vegetation from the front and back flower borders, and finally splitting our giant rhubarb crown into separate sections (better late than never…).

We also managed our third ‘trial’ walk – turns out I’m not very good at following instructions though!! Every time I suggest an addition ‘to make it easier for people to follow’ – John points out it’s included in the next sentence…

Sunday afternoon was set aside for installing the various bird boxes, insect boxes and bat boxes we need before we can start build (subject to planning; the objection window closes in two weeks so our fingers are losing blood they’re crossed so tightly!!). We managed five bird boxes and one butterfly box before the ice-cold wind proved too much for us, and we retreated inside to light the fire. Only four more bird boxes, two insect houses and four bat boxes to go… Anyway, it would have been dangerous to have climbed high enough to install the bat boxes in such a wind… ;-)

  1. You blow me away with your drive and energy! Love the walking maps/guide idea. When we can venture further ( depending on gov restrictions review) if you’d like a guinea pig to try out the walks you devise, we’d love to do them and give you any feedback. We’re getting tired of our local treks. Val and Keithx

    1. Awww thanks! it doesn’t feel like it when we’re not making progress through our job list as quickly as we’d hoped, so lovely to hear! And yes please!!! We would definitely love that! let me know when, and I’ll send across all the ones we have so far (warning – they all start here, you can easily start somewhere along the route but if you give us warning we’d love it if you popped in for tea & cake whenever ok to do so!). x
