It’s design time!!!

This week has ended on a definite high. Having felt a little disheartened at the end of Monday (a result of feelings of limited progress and cancelling plans with friends), we had our next meeting with our architects today, who brought round a range of designs for the first two buildings. They’ve clearly put a lot of thought into the ideas – and while it was disappointing to know that the buildings weren’t quite big enough for everything we’d hoped for – it’s not actually that far off. And they came up with some interesting suggestions that we loved and hadn’t even considered.

We were really excited to see their ideas for the wider site too, as we love to hear what makes a holiday destination special for different people. It’s been an interesting exercise to refer back to our target customer groups and think about how/if each group would use the ideas, and how we might adapt some of them to be relevant for more people.

We’ve also been lucky enough to have our young nephews and nieces come to stay recently. Watching how the children interact with the space was insightful as we’re really keen to make sure the site is enjoyable for them as much as adults, while equally creating safe spaces that allow their parents to have a relaxing holiday too (although I suspect that a babysitter may be the only solution in some cases, and we definitely don’t plan to offer that service ourselves!!).

The architects brought us copies of the site map that our surveyors completed a couple of weeks ago – with every tiny detail and measurement mapped out, right down to the last tree. No wonder they were here for the full day!

At least now we have an excuse for a break this weekend – taking the design ideas around the buildings and imagining how it would look like while in the environment, rather than just at the dining room table. And with three days off next week and a packed job list for five days, I think we’ll need inspirational breaks! Now we just need the rain to stay away for a couple of days – time to check all the latest weather forecast apps to see which one suits us best ;-)
