One small step forward…

It feels like we’re slowly making our way through the pre-planning checklist. We’re expecting the outcome of the bat surveys in the next week or so, and this week we had our surveyor visit. Despite the rain, our three surveyors spent the entire day measuring all the buildings and spaces, as well as the topography of the site, to feed into our architect initial designs and planning application. It’ll be a couple of weeks before the survey is ready – but at least it’s one more hoop jumped through!

This weekend, our planned visitor had to cancel due to the latest lockdown rules, so we made an early start painting the inside of the farmhouse. We thought we’d started with an easy yet crucial part – the hall, stairs and landings – keeping it simple with bright white everywhere (it’s a fairly dark space with little natural light). But we quickly found that four days was nowhere near enough – after spending the first day and a half sanding and filling the cracks, and with all the corners and thin bannister spokes, we finished Sunday still having the top coat of the walls and woodwork remaining.

We’re hoping to finish before our next guests arrive at the weekend so we can tidy everything away, but it looks like it’s going to be tight!!

  1. Great to read the topographical survey is complete and you now await the outcome of the two surveys carried out. Painting hall, stairs over two floors and two landings is most likely the most time consuming and once done painting the rooms will seem so much quicker! Look forward to seeing the finished photos! Looking forward to reading your next update.
