Kings Arms, Stockland

The Kings Arms in Stockland is just over a mile walk from Ley Farm Cottages, or you can drive and use the car park located behind. It’s dog friendly and was taken over by a new landlord in Spring 2024. It offers a great seasonal menu and local ales.

The Yarcombe Inn, Yarcombe

*** Update *** The Yarcombe Inn has been refurbished inside and reopened with new landlords in charge on 13th June 2025. They are only open for drinks for now (Tuesday to Sunday) but the landlords Justine and Kieran are very friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere.
The Yarcombe Inn is just 25-30 minutes walk from Ley Farm Cottages along a quiet lane. Find out more on their facebook page here.
The Flintlock Inn, Marsh

The Flintlock is a lovely family-run pub just off the A303. It’s dog friendly in the bar and has a huge back garden, and plenty of parking too. It’s about a 1.5-2hr walk from Ley Farm Cottages – perfect to walk off your lunch.
The Flintlock currently has limited opening hours (closed during June 2025, and then open Friday night for drinks, and Sunday lunch for pre-booked food only). To check the latest or to book, call 01460 234403 or look on their Facebook page. We can definitely recommend the food at the Flintlock Inn!
Tuckers Arms, Dalwood

The Tuckers Arms is a 12th century thatched pub with a good sized front and back garden. It serves quality food and is dog friendly, and has managed to retain its old charm inside. They also have an amazing collection of miniatures!

The Sidmouth Arms, Upottery

The Sidmouth Arms is about 1.5-2 hrs walk from Ley Farm Cottages and features in some of our longer walks. It’s a spacious dog-friendly pub and has plenty of parking if you prefer to drive. They are one of the only pubs close by who serve breakfast on a Friday.

The Cotley Inn, Wambrook

The Cotley Inn is a Grade II listed building just over the county border in Somerset and was first used as a public house in 1867. It’s well known for serving excellent food. They have a lovely garden and plenty of parking, and are dog friendly. It’s about a 2hr walk from Ley Farm Cottages – look on our Walks page to find a route.

The Candlelight Inn, Bishopswood

Unfortunately the Candlelight Inn is currently closed.
The York Inn, Churchinford

The York Inn is across the border in Somerset and won ‘Somerset Pub of the Year 2023’ and ‘South West Divisional Pub of the Year 2024’. It’s well known for good quality and good value food (especially their Sunday roast) and is dog friendly.
