Slow progress

A busy week at work means it’s been quiet at home. Our plumbers came over on Friday to fit the shower tray in the Cow Shed and attempted to fit the cistern in the shower room so our builder could come back and finish building the wall behind it. Unfortunately the cistern is too big so we’ve had to order a different one that will fit within the space available – hopefully we’ve allowed ourselves enough painting time that this won’t cause any delays to our timeline. Painting starts next weekend as long as John has time to clean the walls during the week…

As we didn’t have anyone staying in the Farmhouse we spent Sunday doing a few repair jobs that have been building up – painting over some of the cracks that have appeared throughout the winter and temporarily sealing gaps around one of the windows that gets the worst of the weather and is causing damp in a bedroom. We’ve had the dehumidifier in there drying the wall out since – the joys of owning a 200 year old building. John deep cleaned the aga ready for our next guests arriving on Thursday while I repaired one of the beds that had been damaged at some point. There are still plenty of jobs on our list though – we still need to weed the front garden at some point. The crocuses we planted in the autumn have come up so at least there is some colour amongst the weeds!

My aunt has very kindly donated her steam ironing machine so we went over there on Saturday to pick it up (and were spoilt with a very lovely Thai meal as well!). We just need to replace a part and then it’ll be good to use. John can’t wait to try it as he currently spends over 8 hours a week ironing all the bedding – this will be a game changer!
