Painting, painting and more painting

It’s amazing how quickly time goes when you’re in a room all day, armed with a paintbrush and roller, and various pots of paint. We thought (hoped) that the three-day weekend would give us time to finish the ensuite and make a clear run in our bedroom right through to finishing the ceiling and walls (we’re keeping the wallpaper as it’s in fairly reasonable condition and we need to save money!). And we got close – unfortunately thwarted by some of the woodwork paint cracking again, and running out of wall paint for the bedroom. We also got some late inspiration for decoration in the ensuite that will have to wait until next weekend when we’re more motivated. At least we’re a big step closer – we’ve almost finished 6 out of the 8 rooms we’d targeted ourselves to do. All that’s left is the bedroom woodwork, the kitchen, and then all the door hinges and radiators. Oh and the odd repair needed. We also need to go through all our pictures to decide what to hang in each room. It’s still feeling like a very long list…!

The exciting thing for this weekend was that our first set of conservatory furniture arrived after a 6 week wait! As we’re aiming to rent out this house for 8 people we need to make sure there’s 8 of everything – but we didn’t want to order loads of furniture that wouldn’t fit! So we’ve started with a 6-piece set and, after a bit of trial and error, we think there’ll be enough space for a second set, so that’s back on the list to order at some point. The room really is starting to look lovely, especially with the fairy lights at night.

We managed a bit of outdoor time too – a combination of digging up more of the bank in the orchard and planting potatoes, transferring seedlings from one pot to another and planting new seeds to replace the ones we’ve managed to kill already (mainly cabbage seeds – whatever we’re doing they really don’t like it!!), and an early morning walk on Bank Holiday Monday to make up for Evie having two days in the house. More new routes for John to map!
