A busy Easter weekend and the need to catch up on studying means that we’ve focused mainly on odd jobs over the course of the week and weekend, some that have been waiting since before Christmas! We’ve nearly finished the main bathroom redecoration, with new towel rails and the first two coats of primer on the woodwork. And the spare room is now nearly complete with shelves (and a trailing ivy to hide the slight wonk 😊 ).
The bluebells for our snowdrop & bluebell bank arrived on Saturday, so the need to get the bulbs planted quickly pushed that up the priority list. The bank just needs weeding now by someone who knows the difference between a plant and a weed (not us!) and hopefully next year it should be resplendent in colour – a lovely way to greet visitors! We’ve also planted the next set of seeds for our kitchen garden – keeping them in the conservatory due to (a) a complete failing of anything to germinate outside, and (b) an unidentified creature who’s taken a liking to seeds in the greenhouse. At least we have leftover seeds to try again.
The other big win was clearing outside the back of the farmhouse. We’ve been stacking up all the pruned branches to dry out for firewood next winter, but it’s either been too cold to stand outside for so long, or simply not a priority. But a big push this weekend means it’s completely cleared, and we’ve even started moving ferns into the DIY rustic pallet planter we have at the back of the terrace. At some point we’ll have to get new garden furniture (ours is so old it’s gradually falling apart) but it’ll have to last a couple more months yet!
