The quietness of the country

Lights on the opposite hill and stars i the night sky, Ley Farm Cottages

So, we’ve made it to our fifth night in our new home, which I think was how long we were told it’d be before we missed the bustle of London… And I can safely say this hasn’t happened!

As much as we loved living in London with everything we could possibly want within a few miles’ radius – there’s only so many times you can hear your neighbour’s text message alert going off through the walls, or the late-night karaoke machine in the school holidays, before you long for peace and quiet. And we’ve certainly got that! The only sounds to break the night silence are the sheep and cows – and the occasional milk lorry scuttling along to the nearby farm.

And the lack of light pollution is still surprising. Tonight we can see stars! A whole map of them across the sky, and a few we can even recognise. I’m still working on photographing them and getting more than just blackness (you need to look really closely at this photo) – one day I hope!

So – to those of you concerned about how we’d cope – we appreciate your care, and the good news is that so far, living here still takes our breath away. Long may this continue :)
